Gavin Williamson, the Education Secretary and MP for South Staffordshire, joined Year 5 and 6 pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Stafford today by live video-link to witness the award-winning Kickstart Money financial education programme, delivered by the charity MyBnk.
Mr Williamson joined the class for their ‘My Money’ session and watched pupils get to grips with the importance of developing a positive mindset towards money, the long term benefits of saving and resisting temptation when it comes to spending.
Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire said:
“I am delighted to be able to see the KickStart Money programme in action today at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in South Staffordshire. KickStart Money is a fantastic initiative, which provides vital financial education to primary school pupils at the age when attitudes to money first form.
It is great to see primary pupils in my constituency get to grips with saving, budgeting and other key financial concepts, which are an important part of managing their finances in adult life. It is great to see that the KickStart Money programme has continued to operate securely during the pandemic and that, through sessions such as the one I watched today, children are able to build positive attitudes towards money at an early age.
I look forward to seeing the KickStart Money programme come to more schools in South Staffordshire and to working with the members of KickStart Money to promote financial education at a primary level.”
