Dame Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking, joined Year 5 pupils virtually at Parsloes Primary School in Dagenham today to witness an award-winning financial education programme – the Kickstart Money initiative, delivered by live video-link by the charity MyBnk.
Ms Hodge joined the year 5 class for their ‘My Futures’ session and watched pupils get to grips with the importance of saving and setting financial goals for the future. They also learnt about key financial concepts such as interest, bank accounts and the need to consider risk.
Rt Hon Dame Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking said:
“It is great to see the virtual delivery of the KickStart Money programme in action at Parsloes Primary today. Programmes like this help prepare children and young people for later life as many of our money habits are formed by the age of 7.
I encourage any programme that embed positive saving habits at a young age and I support KickStart Money’s vision to ensure every primary aged child receives a high-quality and effective financial education. I urge other schools in Barking to sign up to this important initiative that ensures all children are equipped with the necessary financial skills for adult life.”
