Local MP Peter Dowd Visits Waterloo Primary School To Witness Innovative And Award-Winning Financial Education Programme

Peter Dowd, MP for Bootle, joined Year 5 pupils at Waterloo Primary in Merseyside today to witness an award-winning financial education programme, delivered by the charity MyBnk on behalf of The Centre for Financial Capability.

Mr Dowd joined the year 5 class for their ‘My Futures’ session, the final of the three sessions delivered by the charity MyBnk, and watched pupils get to grips with the importance of building positive money habits early in order to build stronger saving habits for later life, through learning about the importance of setting savings goals, having a bank account and understanding other key financial concepts such as interest rates and risks.

The KickStart Money programme is funded by The Centre for Financial Capability, a new charity backed an award-winning coalition of 20 savings and investment firms who have donated over £1 million to fund the primary financial education to over 20,000 primary pupils across the UK. The Centre’s mission is to ensure every child in the UK develops the skills and behaviours necessary to navigate critical financial decisions in their life, starting from primary school.

Peter Dowd, MP for Bootle said:

“It was great to see the KickStart Money programme in action in my constituency at Waterloo Primary School today.

“Money management is a vital life skill and, with research suggesting that attitudes to money are formed as young as seven, it is great to see this important initiative helping to equip children with the necessary financial skills for adult life. I look forward to seeing more KickStart Money sessions taking place in Bootle and encourage all primary schools to sign up to this excellent initiative.”
